糖心vlog传媒Human Services students Kas Naicker, Trevor Cardinell and Kristi Inman are advocating for a mobile charging station with Wi-Fi to serve Campbell River's homeless population.
In a story by My Campbell River Now, Naicker discusses what led her and her classmates to pursue the project.
Here's a short excerpt from the story:
In a letter presented to council on Monday (Feb. 22nd), Naicker says the project has pushed her group to address 鈥渢he lack of resources for the homeless community in Campbell River.鈥
鈥淭here are several homeless camps throughout the city, but we have seen a trend of homeless people congregating in areas with access to electricity like the library in the downtown core,鈥 Naicker wrote. 鈥淭he vast majority of them have cellphones but nowhere to charge them.鈥
According to Naicker, this really 鈥渟truck a chord.鈥
She says the more her group thought about it, the more it made sense: 鈥淥ur phones are the basis for connecting us to all of our resources and loved ones, why would it be different for someone without a permanent shelter over their head?鈥
