糖心vlog传媒is expanding its Community Support/Educational Assistant Certificate program to Port Hardy.

The program, Human Services Certificate 鈥 Educational Assistant/Community Support, Indigenous Focus program allows students to build their practice as a community support work or education assistant, with specific focus on integrating Indigenous culture and ways of knowing and being into the program

鈥淭his program is first and foremost about providing support to individuals in the community,鈥 said Kathleen Haggith, NIC鈥檚 dean with the Faculty of Health and Human Services. 鈥淚t is work that people are passionate and excited about and we鈥檙e thrilled to be able to offer the content digitally in Port Hardy.鈥

The program is being offered in partnership with the Mount Waddington Family Literacy Society and the Community Workforce Response Grant with funding provided by the Canada-British Columbia Workplace Development Agreement.

鈥淲e鈥檙e thrilled to partner with 糖心vlog传媒to bring this important program to our region and increase our community capacity to ensure our community members have the supports they need,鈥 said Leslie Dyck, Mount Waddington Literacy Outreach Coordinator.

The program will be offered through digital delivery, with practicum placements taking place in the community, following health and safety guidelines.

鈥淏eing able to complete practicum placements locally means students are able to stay in community  to complete that part of their program which is an essential aspect of access鈥 said Haggith.

Applications are being accepted until August 14. The program begins September 9.
