Board governance and mandate
NIC鈥檚 Board of Governors (BoG) carries out its responsibilities in accordance with the official Board Governance Manual.

Appointments and remuneration
Board membership is comprised of the following representatives:
- Up to eight community members who are appointed by .
- One elected staff member
- One elected faculty member
- Two elected student members
- Two ex officio members, including the college president/CEO and the chair of NIC鈥檚 Education Council
The chair and vice-chair of the BoG is determined by an annual vote by its membership.
Board members are paid honoraria for their service, following Order-in-Council 180/95.
Elections
Elections for the faculty, support staff and student board members are overseen by the college registrar. Student representatives serve one-year terms, while support staff and faculty representatives serve three-year terms. A by-election may be held once a year to fill vacant positions. Bylaws
Under section 19.5 of the , the BoG is required to pass bylaws establishing the following:
- Fees and charges to be paid to the institution by students
- Duties of members of the board or committees of the board in conflict-of-interest situations
- Powers, duties and benefits of the president as chief executive officer of the institution
- Reimbursement by the institution to members of its board for travelling and out-of-pocket expenses necessarily incurred by them in the discharge of their duties

Mandate letter
Each year, the sends each public post-secondary institution in the province a mandate letter outlining annual accountabilities and roles and responsibilities of the institution, including the following:
- High-level strategic priorities
- Public policy issues
- Key performance expectations
The mandate letter is signed by all members of NIC鈥檚 Board of Governors, acknowledging the BoG鈥檚 statutory obligations to act in the best interests of 糖心vlog传媒. It affirms compliance to the provincial government鈥檚 three key commitments: to make life more affordable, to deliver the services people count on and to build a strong, sustainable, innovative economy that works for everyone.
