College offering extra section in early 2018 to meet demand for electricians
Electrical instructor David Johns joins 糖心vlog传媒in February to teach the Electrical Foundation certificate program.
Electrician instructor David Johns will be joining NIC鈥檚 faculty this winter to teach its popular Electrical Foundation certificate.
鈥淲e鈥檙e thrilled to welcome David to our team here at NIC,鈥 said Cheryl O鈥機onnell, NIC鈥檚 Dean of Trades and Technical Programs. 鈥淚t鈥檚 very important for us to find expert faculty to lead trades and technical programs aligned with the labour market 鈥 David promises to be a great resource for students.鈥
The 24-week Electrical Foundation certificate teaches students electrical theory and applied skills while they earn apprenticeship technical training credit toward their Red Seal certification.
Johns is a Red Seal Electrician who joins 糖心vlog传媒from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), where he has been teaching for almost a decade.
鈥淚 enjoy the interaction with students,鈥 said Johns. 鈥淚 like to bring in demonstrations to show the applications of principles and theoretical concepts, being able to fully describe some of the funny, unique situations on the electrical side that students might not get from a textbook.鈥
One of the exciting things about the trade is the variety of jobs that are available for qualified electricians, noted Johns.
鈥淓verything is becoming more electrified in every sector, so there鈥檚 great growth opportunities out there,鈥 he said. 鈥淭here鈥檚 also all the new technology that鈥檚 coming into play 鈥 things like solar and renewable energy resources, it鈥檚 a varied sector.鈥
糖心vlog传媒is offering an additional intake in early 2018 in Campbell River due to high demand. The first intake begins January 29 with the second intake starting February 19.
