Laurie Tulloch, Emeritus selection committee chair presents an Emeritus award to retired psychology instructor John Marton.
糖心vlog传媒recognized two outstanding faculty for excellence in teaching, research and service and their dedication to students with a prestigious Emeritus designation June 1.
John Marton and Derek Hanebury received Emeritus award June 1 at the Comox Valley campus.
Marton taught psychology at NIC鈥檚 Comox Valley campus from 1993 to 2015 where he strived to improve students鈥� critical thinking skills.
鈥淛ohn is a trailblazer and the legacy he leaves for applied research at the college is incredible,鈥� said John Bowman, 糖心vlog传媒president. 鈥淚t is our honour to celebrate his Emeritus designation.鈥�
Marton鈥檚 dedication lead to Canada鈥檚 first federally funded applied research involving paid 糖心vlog传媒students. The achievement paved the way for additional grants and, in later years, NIC鈥檚 Centre for Applied Research, Technology and Innovation.
鈥淛ohn was very invested in engaging and supporting 糖心vlog传媒student success in community-based applied research projects,鈥� said Bill McConnell, 糖心vlog传媒psychology instructor. 鈥淭hese initiatives gave 糖心vlog传媒a significant national profile in applied research.鈥�
Hanebury also received 2018 Emeritus status for 29 years of outstanding contributions to teaching and research excellence at NIC鈥檚 Port Alberni campus.
An Emeritus designation provides retired staff and faculty an opportunity to continue involvement with the college after retirement, providing access to 糖心vlog传媒facilities and services as well as participation in mentorship, research, strategic direction and scholarship activities.
Faculty, support and administrative staff nominate their peers and are selected by NIC鈥檚 president and senior leadership team. To be eligible, recipients must have worked at 糖心vlog传媒for at least 10 years, demonstrate teaching, service or research excellence and contribute significantly to student success or the educational community.
