糖心vlog传媒Elder in Residence June Johnson was named Diversity and Inclusion Advocate in the annual Local Hero Awards, sponsored by the Campbell River Mirror and Mowi Canada West.

Johnson, who is from the Wewaikai Nation, was recognized for "making a difference for young people in Campbell River."

She teaches Liqwala/Kwak鈥檞ala language and culture to Indigenous and non-Indigenous students and teaches doctors and nurses about traditional plants and medicines.

Johnson also fundraises for events like Paddle to Lummi, a canoe expedition that celebrates Coast Salish people and culture, and has journeyed alongside youth on similar trips.
