Overview

The program combines hands-on skills with theoretical knowledge to give you a start in the growing sustainable manufacturing sector. Based at Alberni Valley Makerspace, you and your classmates will gain an introduction to six main modules (see courses) that cover the fundamentals you need to get a start in the field, including:

  • Software
  • Laser cutting and 3D printing
  • Plastic recycling and manufacturing
  • Woodworking
  • Small electronics applications

As part of the curriculum, you’ll combine knowledge and skills gained throughout the program to create a functioning prototype as your capstone project.

Program details

Learn about core digital tools that underpin sustainable, small-scale manufacturing workflows.

This course covers the essentials of laser cutting operations and techniques, including printer calibration, engraving vector designs and more.

Learn to transform post-consumer plastic into new products from start to finish.

Traditional woodworking techniques meet CNC routing – allowing learners to apply advanced joinery to produce finished wooden products.

This course covers the core skills to competently assemble, test and repair small electronic circuits.

Using various skills and disciplines, learners will complete a capstone project in the form of a functioning prototype.

Schedule

This program runs from Oct. 28 to Dec. 12, 2025.

Classes are scheduled from 9 am to 4 pm daily, Monday to Friday.
